Green Screen Practice and Representation Analysis
I have used a green screen sheet behind the artist so that it could be edited to add any background I wanted.
I have chosen to edit the image so that it represents the Narrative music video genre.
I have placed the artist in an deserted train carriage to accentuate their feelings of loneliness and isolation.This is appropriate for the Narrative music genre because it is adding to the story line of the video, the artist could be traveling to work or be traveling home after a long day; there are many possibilities. The image of the train can signify the end of the line, for example the end of a relationship, or the beginning of a new journey.
The artist is standing alone in the foreground of the shot, this represents her isolation. This theme of isolation could be linked to the lyrics of a song or to the music, it could also be representing a mood change.
The use of Mise-en-scene is essential in Narrative music videos, it allows the audience to immerse themselves within the story line of the video and it can be used to emphasise the artists emotions or have a direct link to the lyrics.
The screen shot below is from the music video for Suffocate by Feeder. The artist is shown in a crowded train which links to the lyrics "hear me cry, suffocate".

My first image is of our original photograph of me with the green curtain behind me. The green curtain is used to make the subject you don't want to be edited out - stand out. It's framed so that only I am in the shot and so that only the green curtain is in the background so that when it comes to editing we wouldn't have the problem of a spot in the frame being uneditable. I am also stood not too far away from the camera but not too close so that when I am put into the image I will look in perspective. I am posed so as to look like a pop singer and "cool". This is because my video is supposed to be a pop video with a cartoon theme.
The image that I used for the background is of an under the sea house which fits the style of my video. It is part of the genre and the style I was going for and it is very recognisable also.

The video I can compare my own image with is Busted's "Year 3000" which has a similar underwater cartoon feel to it. The boyband are going for a similar "cool" angle and they stand out very much within the cartoon background of the video.

Introduction
As a group we will create a music video as part of our coursework unit. This blog will contain the evidence of our research, practice and planning. For our music video we had to choose an unsigned band and we chose Crash Island. Crash Island is an Indie Rock band from Stoke Newington, London that started in 2012. The Band has played shows in France, Germany, Switzerland and all around the UK. There are four band members in Crash Island; Gizmo (vocals and guitar), Jeremy (guitar and keyboard), Jay (bass and keyboard) and Yusuf (drums and vocals).
As for ourselves, there are three of us:
Juliette: I'm 17, I listen to a wide variety of music, for example Pop- such as Taylor Swift and Shakira. Folk- such as Mumford & Sons and traditional Irish music. Also indie rock- such as a local band Echo Park and of course now Crash Island. I mainly listen to music on the radio. I have seen Echo Park live and I've also been to 'Big Gig' twice (a Guiding event) where I enjoyed acts including Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon, Little Mix, Mike Dignam and Union J.
Matt: I'm 18, I like listening to a wide variety of genres from grunge to hip hop. One of my favourite current bands are the Foo Fighters whose music I really enjoy. This is to be expected though as I'm also a big fan of Nirvana. Along with my love for these bands I also enjoy listening to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Frank Ocean. I don't go to too many gigs or festivals but when I have done I've really enjoyed them.
